SHINNSTON -- Ada L. Harbert Shreves, 96, of Lumberport, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. She was born Sept. 17, 1904, on Jones Run, a daughter of the late Thomas Elsworth Harbert and Rose Alice Webb.
Her husband, Joe Richard Shreves, whom she married Nov. 23, 1929, preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Deloris Richards, Lumberport; two grandsons, Scott and Matt Richards and one great-granddaughter, Stefni Richards; two brothers, Artie W. Harbert, Lumberport, and Thomas H. Harbert, Gypsy; two sisters, Jessie Irene Taylor, Lumberport, and Beulah Helen Dye, Maryland.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Shreves was the middle child of nine children and has visited every state except three, Alaska, Hawaii and North Dakota. She was a member of the Lumberport Methodist Church, Green Hills Homemakers Club.
She served on the Election Board for 42 years and was a seamstress for many years for area residents. She was a member of the Harrison County Senior Citizens, Lumberport Satellite.
Mrs. Shreves enjoyed raising a garden and attended Fairmont Normal School. She taught school for nine years until 1933.
Friends will be received from 12:30-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. today, where the funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Robert Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Lions Club Cemetery, Lumberport.
