Carroll Eugene "Gene" Phillips
Graveside services for Mr. Carroll Eugene "Gene" Phillips will be held Friday, December 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery with Revered Robbie Rollins officiating. Memorial services are entrusted to White Oaks Funeral Home. Gene passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, at the age of 76, in Allen Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Gene was born and raised in Oakdale and was a 1965 graduate of Oakdale High School. He went on to attend and graduate from McNeese University. Gene taught 4th grade at Oakdale Elementary for 45-1/2 years. He was a lifetime active member of First Baptist Church and taught Children's Sunday School at FBC for over 30 years. He was secretary/treasurer of The Oakdale Cemetery Association. Gene touched the lives of so many in the community and after he retired from teaching, he was a regular volunteer at the First Baptist Church Thrift Store.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Ford Eugene Phillips and Muriel Flowers Phillips. He is survived by his many friends and his church family. He will be missed by so many that have wonderful memories of his quick wit and zingy one liners.
