Carolyn D. Walden, 63, of Kansas City, Kan., died on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the University of Kansas Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 25, at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan., with burial following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call on her family from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas University Cancer Research Center. Carolyn was born January 4, 1945, in Scammon, Kan., and had lived in Kansas City, Kan., for most of her life. She was a 1963 graduate of Wyandotte High School. Carolyn was an assessor with the Unified Government, retiring in 2006. She was an active community volunteer serving as a member of the Historical Westheight Neighborhood Association, the Grinter Quilters, the Cooper-Foreman Heirloom Garden and the Wyandotte County Historical Society, serving as its President in 2002- 2003. Carolyn received numerous awards for volunteerism including the Mayoral Award for 2007 for females, and the Gold Presidential Award for 2007. She was actively involved in her children's and grandchildren's lives, including serving as their Den Mother and in the PTA. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 43 years, Wayne Walden, of the home; son Geoffrey Walden and wife Kirsten of Overland Park, Kan.; son Christopher Walden and wife Kristie, Lee's Summit, Mo.; daughter Holly Green and husband Stephen, Kansas City, Kan.; son Andy Walden, Lee's Summit, Mo.; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Hannah and Jacob Walden, and Taylor and Alex Green; two sisters, Edna L.
