Sue Lehman met The Lord on December 5, 2023 at the age of 91.
Sue Gerberich was born to Myron "Mike" Gerberich and Margaret Cornell-Gerberich on September 15, 1932 in Aurora, IL. After she graduated from West High School in Aurora in 1950, she attended William Woods Jr. College in Fulton, MO. At that time, her parents and her sister (Joan) moved to Cedar Falls, IA, where her father took a position as a mechanical engineer at Chamberlain Manufacturing. After finishing at William Woods, she attended Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa), where she earned her teaching degree in Art. She taught Art in Cedar Falls elementary schools (primarily North Cedar and Lincoln) for 14 years.
Sue married Eugene "Gene" Lehman on November 17, 1956. They adopted three children: John (1964), Jill (1966) and Josh (1969). Gene owned a men's clothing store called the "Stag Shop" on Main Street in Cedar Falls. Sue was a "stay-at-home mom" for a while, but later worked at the Stag Shop as a part-time bookkeeper until they retired in 1991.
Sue and Gene were very involved in supporting history in Cedar Falls. Sue was Chairperson of the Victorian Home and Carriage House Museum for five years. She and Gene made several three-dimensional models of historic Cedar Falls buildings, many of which are still on display in the community. They worked on several tours and projects at the Cedar Falls Historical Society, and they organized the Historical Research Committee at Fredsville Lutheran Church. In 2007, they were recognized as "Representative Citizens of the Year" by the City of Cedar Falls and the Greater Cedar Valley Chamber of Commerce-Cedar Falls.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister.
She is survived by children John (Kristie) of Cedar Falls, Jill Lehman (Neal Muzzy) of Cedar Falls, and Josh (Jennifer) of Johnston, as well as seven grandchildren.
Private family services. Burial will be in Fredsville Lutheran Church Cemetery.
