Warren Morrill Woolsey
April 10, 1943 - December 9, 2023 (age 80)

Warren was born on April 10th, 1943 and passed away on December 9th, 2023 at the age of 80.

On December 9, 2023, after 80 years of a very full and valiant life, Warren Morrill Woolsey died peacefully at his home following a short and unexpected bout with Lymphoma.

Warren was born at home in Escalante, Utah, on April 10, 1943, as the 4th child to Mildred Morrill and Tillman Woolsey. He also was blessed with 12 siblings from his parent's previous marriages. Warren grew up spending summers of grand adventure on the Escalante and Boulder mountains while helping watch over the family sheep herd. He recounts many fond memories including riding on the back of a mule with his siblings Milton, Sharon, and Donald.

In second grade, Warren decided to become a dentist. He spent the rest of his primary education years working to achieve that goal. Warren was the Valedictorian and Class President of his Escalante High School graduating class. He lettered in basketball, track, and baseball while beginning to date his future eternal partner, and the love of his life, Kathleen Wilcock Marsh.

Following high school, Warren attended one year at College of Southern Utah-CSU and then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Australia.

Upon his return, Warren returned to college and proposed marriage to Kathleen. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George Temple on November 6, 1964. They lived in Cedar City to start their married life while Warren and Kathleen attended CSU. They welcomed their first child, Warren Glen, during this time. Warren graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Zoology and a minor in Chemistry.

Upon graduation, Warren was thrilled to be accepted to Saint Louis University, where he graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree fulfilling his life-long dream. While in dental school, Kathleen and Warren welcomed their second son, Darren Lane.

After graduation, Warren and Kathleen returned to Cedar City, where Warren opened his dental practice. They welcomed Val Dean to the family, and as it's true that good things come to those who wait, their daughter Alycia was born ten years later.

Warren loved his family and spent time hunting, hiking, camping, fishing, and golfing with them. He enjoyed taking them to new places to experience the wonder of the Lord's creations. They fondly remember trips to the Escalante & Boulder Mtns. and Warm Springs each Easter. Warren and Kathleen had the opportunity to take Alycia on many trips worldwide. His grandchildren also have many fond memories of outdoor excursions with their loving grandfather.

Warren worked for 32 years, building his dental practice with the support of Kathleen and his sister Sharon, who managed the dental office and worked chairside with him for his entire career. Alycia worked alongside him for 5 years. During his career, Warren also served terms as the President of the Southern Utah Dental Society.

After Warren sold his practice in 2004, Warren and Kathleen served a two-year mission in Johannesburg as the Welfare Directors of the Southeast Africa Area.

Upon returning from their mission, Warren extended his dental career as he began working with Western Regional Examining Board WREB, and traveled extensively to dental schools serving as a clinical floor examiner, testing graduating dental students who were seeking licensing. He enjoyed staying abreast of new dental techniques, traveling to dental schools all over the country, and giving back to the profession he loved. He continued as a WREB floor examiner until June of last year. In addition to helping dental students he served on the Utah State Licensing Board for Dentistry.

Warren served his church and community in many ways throughout his life. Warren served in many Ward and Stake callings, most recently as a stake Patriarch since 2008. He served as a member and leader in Kiwanis Club, ABLE, Sons of Utah Pioneers, and SUSC Alumni Council.

Warren spent many years in the scouting program. He was a varsity scout coach, scoutmaster, and Explorer Adviser for over 12 years. He was both Philmont and Wood Badge trained. He went on to serve as the Cedar Breaks District Chairman. He received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest recognition a local council can bestow on volunteer leaders.

Warren worked hard to improve and grow academically, spiritually and physically. Though not a natural distance runner, he strived over many years to become such. He especially enjoyed marathon running and trained hard to improve his times. He once extended a daily running streak that lasted over two years in which he ran a minimum of 5 miles every day only missing Sundays. Warren ran the Deseret News and Dixie Marathons annually over many years; ran the Boston Marathon twice as a qualified runner, and one of his favorite marathons was the Avenue of the Giants set in the California Redwoods. Warren also participated in countless half marathons,10k races, and even a couple triathlons.

Warren Morrill Woolsey is survived by his wife Kathleen, children Glen (Jill) Woolsey of Beaver; Darren (Jeanette) Woolsey of Castle Dale; Dean (Nancy) Woolsey of Burley, ID; and Alycia (Robert) Tebbs of Las Vegas, NV; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Francisco, brother-in-law Sharon Dale Marsh, and sister-in-law Joyce Woolsey.

Warren peacefully anticipated a glorious reunion with his parents and brothers Donald and Milton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11am at the Cedar 16th Ward Chapel (1925 W 320 S, Cedar City, Utah). Viewings will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 6 to 8pm at Southern Utah Mortuary (190 North 300 West, Cedar City, Utah), and on Friday prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30am. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
