She was born on July 11, 1946, in Sullivan, Indiana, and grew up in Park Forest, Illinois.
She graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1968. While in college, she reconnected with her junior high crush from Park Forest. She and Richard Mason quickly teamed up as a couple, marrying in 1971 and welcoming their only child, Amy Katherine, in 1976. Nancy sadly passed just 10 days before their 50th wedding anniversary.
In her adult life, Nancy lived in the Chicagoland area, Lincoln, NE, and Topeka, KS. Whenever Richard's job took them to a new locale, she was always optimistic with an attitude to "bloom where you are planted". She was admired by all who crossed her path. Her compassion, intelligence, and quick wit were lost on no one. She made good friends wherever she went, and maintained many of those friendships her entire life. She was always quick to say how lucky she was to have so many wonderful friends.
She is survived by her husband Richard Mason (Topeka, Kansas), daughter Amy Bragg (Wakefield, Kansas), a son in law, two nephews, and several cousins. An only child, she was preceded in death by her father Robert "Bob" Reed in 1981, and her mother Amy Wray Reed in 2005.
According to Nancy's wishes, she was cremated, and a memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later time.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
