Obituary
ELLA MAE (BAKER) THOMAS, 86 of Pylesville, MD, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in her home. Born on May 17, 1936 in Havre de Grace, MD, she was the second of four daughters born to the late Arch Dean Baker and Kathleen Ruby (Moxley) Baker. Ella Mae spent her early childhood years in the Overlea area of Baltimore County before moving to Street, MD where her father was a dairy farmer.

Ella Mae attended the Highland School until the new North Harford High School opened in 1950, and was a member of the fourth graduating class in 1954. She was a member of the choral group and carried flags in the marching band. Ella Mae accepted a date with one of her classmates, Raymond A. Thomas in their junior year, and they became high school sweethearts. They were married on November 30, 1954 when he was on leave from the US Army. Only a few days after the wedding, Raymond was deployed to Germany during the Korean Conflict era; she quickly became a military wife and cared for their son, David who was born while Raymond was overseas. After his discharge, the family moved to the Rocks area before settling on Scott Road. Ella Mae was a homemaker until taking a position with the International Harvester Dealership in Bel Air, MD in the early 1960's. Ella Mae accepted a position with Harford Mutual Insurance Company also in Bel Air, MD and then went to work for Harford County Government in 1969 where she served for 28 years, retiring in October 1997.

Ella Mae was a devout Christian and was one of the original members of North Harford Baptist Church when it was founded on North Bend Road before moving to Old Federal Hill Road in Jarrettsville. She taught Sunday School, VBS, was involved in church activities and offered her beautiful voice in the alto section of the choir. She also sang in the choir of Fawn UMC and visited at the Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene frequently.

Ella Mae was a member and past Worthy Matron of Penn Mary OES Chapter #72 of Cardiff, MD. She was one of the original members of the NHHS Hawks Endzone Club that raised funds so the high school could have a football team. She was at nearly all of the games where her son played and supported both of her children in school activities. She was a very talented crafter especially in counted cross-stitch. Ella Mae was a proud grandmother and was delighted when the great grandchildren were born. She had a great sense of humor and quick wit. Her dedication to family, friends and community will be missed.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by:
Two children-
David Thomas (Gail Smith Thomas) of White Hall, MD
Patricia Hushon (Jeffrey Lovelidge) of Delta, PA
