I'm so deeply saddened to tell you that my wonderful little sister, Tracy Sherman, passed away tonight.

She valiantly faced terminal cancer and fought in her own way beyond what anyone thought was humanly possible. While I hold her in my heart forever, Tracy in turn takes with her a big piece of me.

About a year ago when she told me of her dire prognosis, I immediately made arrangements to fly out to Albuquerque to assist her. Before I left, I sat at my keyboard, thought about my life with my little sister and played what was in my heart. I recently gathered photos, letters, artwork and film of Tre and just put them all to that improvised recording.

Nothing could ever fully capture the wild child, rebellious and talented, whip-smart, funny and dynamic creature Tracy was, but I did my best. She deserves that. Despite all the challenges Tre faced in her life, she always wrote me and my family wonderful letters, sent gifts, travelled with us and expressed true love. She also always spoke her mind and cut right to the core. To the end, Tracy Sherman was strong, bold and outspoken -- fearless -- and lived by her own rules. She did not suffer fools. I felt honored always to be her big brother that she love. She adored my Wonderful Wendella (as she called her) and my two boys, Alex and Ryan. They loved Tracy just as much back and are broken over this news, too.

As am I.

I will never get over this loss - it cuts very deep for me. Tracy, with all her eccentricities, excesses and obstacles, loved life and fought to clutch it close it beyond what anyone thought possible. Except for me.

I knew and adored my little sister, as did so many others who have reached out to me already. I will write much more about this special woman who loved and was loved.

For now, I will have a good cry -- grateful to have had her in my life and for the end, finally, to her suffering. I will cherish all of our 59 years together.

God bless you my little sister Tre. Impossible to imagine not seeing you ever again. You will always be in my thoughts and in my heart.

Safe travels Tracela and I pray you at last find peace.
