William Humphrey, born in the 1750's, served in the Revolution, and married Mary Summers, daughter of John III Summers & [Mary MNU or Susannah Adams] of Fairfax County, Virginia. She was born 1756 in Fairfax County, Virginia.

"About the year 1785 or 1786 William Humphrey, Joseph Ferguson, William Summers and Thomas Ellison emigrated to Kentucky from Virginia, three of whom settled in (now) Nelson County. To wit - Humphrey and Ferguson having married the sisters of Summers, and Ellison the sister of Humphrey..." (Kentucky Genealogist, Vol.3, April-June 1961, pp.88-97).
In a 1789 tax list of Nelson County (Ky.) the names of William Humphrey, William
Kendrick, James Nall, Joshua Ferguson & Joseph Ferguson are found. In the 1792 tax list for Nelson County, Ky. William Humphrey, Joseph & Joshua Ferguson are listed and on the 1792 tax list for Washington County, Ky. are William Kendrick, John Nall & Thomas Elliston. In the book, First Census of Kentucky, 1790 (Heinemann), William Humphrey is one of two Humphreys listed, the other being Merry Humphrey of Fayette County.
William Humphrey of Nelson County, Kentucky died in 1805 and was buried at the Poplar Flat Church in Nelson County.
