Jo Anne McDougall, 84, of Petersburg, passed away peacefully at home, knowing she was loved until her last breath on Saturday, December 23, at 10:20 a.m.
She was born March 18, 1939, to Jim and Anna Mae (Davidson) Bell, in Petersburg, Illinois.
Jo Anne graduated from Harris High School in 1957 and shortly thereafter, married Ed, the love of her life, on October 8, 1959. They enjoyed a long and wonderful life together and particularly enjoyed their many excursions to Branson, Missouri, along with extensive travels throughout the United States. Above all, she treasured her family and thoroughly enjoyed hosting huge holiday gatherings in the house she and Ed called home for over 58 years. As the oldest of seven siblings, she was a natural born nurturer with a heart of gold. She loved helping others any way she could and wanted nothing in return. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed working outdoors with her flowers. She particularly enjoyed shopping, collecting angels and reading. The thing she cherished most in life was being a wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt. Family was by far her most prized possession.
Jo Anne is survived by son; her daughter and her late husband; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her four brothers; her two
sisters- in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jo Anne was preceded in death by Ed, her husband of 62 years, on December 27, 2021; her parents, Jim and Anna Mae; a brother, Jim Bell and a sister, Vicki Bell.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 29, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home, in Petersburg. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Free Church, 209 S. Douglas St, also in Petersburg, with Pastor Keith Masten officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, in Petersburg following the services.
