William Eugene "Bill" Smith passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, in Sugar Land, Texas at the age of 82. Bill was born to Eugene and Georgina Smith in Houston, Texas on May 23, 1941, and had one older brother named George. He grew up in the Heights and attended Reagan High School and the University of Houston, before joining the Texas Air National Guard.
Bill met his wife Lesley while attending UH, and they were married on June 20, 1964. They were married for 59 years and raised two children. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brother, daughter Terese and granddaughter Barbara Jean. He is survived by his wife Lesley, son Ken and wife Stella, and his three grandchildren, Michael, Emily, and Matthew.
Bill became a member of the Catholic church in 1963 and has been a parishioner at St. Rose of Lima, St. Justin Martyr, and St. Laurence Catholic churches over the last 60 years. He and his wife were very active in ministries including the Knights of Columbus, the JOY club, TMBS, and the Eucharistic ministry.
A vigil will be held on January 8, 2023 starting at 5pm, with the rosary at 7pm at Forest Park Westheimer. A funeral mass will be held on January 9, 2023 at 10am at St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land, TX. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the mass. A graveside service will follow the reception at 1pm at Forest Park Westheimer.
