Robert E O'Neal, was born on January 4, 1861, and grew up on a farm near Greencastle in Putnam County, Indiana, USA. He went to Alaska to dig for gold between 1900 and 1910 and later moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. He fought for Canada in World War 1 and returned there after the War. He was found drowned in a stream several years later. He never married.
There is a discrepancy in the date of birth. His Canadian Army Enlistment papers were found by a findagrave.com volunteer, however, mentioning his next of kin, his brother who lived in Amo, Indiana, who I identified as my Great-Grandfather Jacob E O'Neal. This is indeed the Robert E O'Neal buried here and the Robert E O'Neal on the papers. He may have lied about his age to get into the Army, a lot of older men who wanted to fight did in those days.

Canadian Amy service number 1013014
