Lois Lee Thelen
November 30, 1933 - November 27th, 2023

Lois Lee (Call) Thelen passed away at home in Hood River, Oregon on November 27, 2023, three days shy of her 90th birthday.

She was born in Spokane, Washington on November 30, 1933 to Lee Wesley Call and Ara Viola Havenhill. Lois grew up in the Hood River Valley, attending Hood River High School, graduating in 1952.

Lois met the love of her life, Gary Walter Thelen, in high school here in Hood River Oregon. On February 27, 1955, they were wed; shortly after, Gary was transferred to Dow Air Force base in Bangor Maine and Lois started her life as an officer's wife. Lois had two children: a daughter, Lorie Susanne (Saito) on April 11, 1958 in Bangor Maine, and a son, Mark Grant on August 1, 1960 in Topeka, Kansas.

In 1967, she and the family moved to San Jose, California when Gary was based in San Francisco as he started his career with Trans World Airlines (TWA). While in San Jose, Lois also started working outside the home as a teacher's aide at the elementary school her children attended. Over the years, Lois would work her way up from teacher's aide, to elementary school secretary, and ending her career retiring as an administrative secretary for the school superintendent. Along the way, she completed an AA degree in administrative administration from Sierra Community College in Rocklin, California.

After retiring, she and Gary traveled to Australia, Africa, Panama, Denmark, Cabo San Lucas, and the Caribbean with high school friends. She and Gary also enjoyed traveling the United States via RV with other friends and family. Lois was a good cook and it was simple for her to whip up a good homestyle meal when the need called for it. She also loved her cats and was happiest when they were close by for her to pet; they even traveled in the RV with her.

Lois is survived by her daughter Lorie and son Mark, both of Hood River, and her grandchildren Alyssa and Branden. She also is survived by her siblings Blaine Evinger and Karen Kahane.

A celebration of life will be planned for the first part of the 2024 year after the holidays at the Wy'East Community Church (3422 Odell Hwy, Odell, OR 97044) and will be announced in a later edition once date is confirmed. Lois will be interred in Idlewilde Cemetery with her husband, Gary, after the memorial.
