Jesse M. Ramirez, 78, of 1152 Lancaster St. died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Born Sept. 28, 1920, in Leon GTO, Mexico, to Louis and Esther Magana Ramirez, he married Justina C. Castillo on Oct. 17, 1942, in Chicago. She died March 2, 1990. He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Cecilia Grady and one grandson.

Surviving are three sons, Sy, Jesse and Rick, all of Galesburg; one daughter, Juanita Chandlee of Galesburg; and five brothers, Antonio and Leonard, both of California, Richard of Maryland, Charles of Cincinnati and James of Las Vegas.

He was a parking meter superintendent for the city of Galesburg for 15 years, retiring in 1985. He was a World War II Army veteran.

He was ordained a deacon for the Peoria Diocese and served at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where he was a member. He was a spiritual director for the Cursillo Movement in the Peoria Diocese for several years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 556.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Galesburg, with military rites accorded by the Galesburg American Legion Post.
