Herbert Attaway Obituary
ATTAWAY, JR., Herbert BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA - Herbert Bailey Attaway, Jr., 82, widower of Dorothy Lindsey Attaway, died Thursday, April 6, 2006. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 7 PM at Copeland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00 PM at The Baptist Church of Beaufort. Interment will be in St. Helena's Episcopal Church Cemetery. Mr. Attaway was born August 7, 1923, in Beaufort, a son of Herbert Bailey Attaway and Rena Marvin Attaway. He was a Gunner's Mate in the US Coast Guard and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a graduate of the University of Florida and was formerly the Dean of the Vocational Technical Division of the Lake City, Florida, Community College. He later taught at the Forestry Institute at the Forest Ranger School in Lake City and later at the Lake City Community College. He was also a consultant for the University of Georgia and was instrumental in establishing a forestry school in Sri Lanka. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City, Florida, Surviving are: two daughters, Melissa Attaway and Patricia Attaway, both of Beaufort; two sisters, Jane Hanna and Elizabeth Lipscomb, both of Beaufort; one brother, James M.
