Stewart Benton was born on August 23, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas to the union of Willie Douglas Stewart and Audrey Mae Briggs. Her formative years were spent in the home of her paternal grandmother in the Southend of town, and attended McKinley Avenue Baptist Church.

She was a Twirler with the Marching Band of Charlton-Pollard High School, from which she graduated with the Class of 1961. Audie married Edward Lee Benton, Sr., of Port Arthur, Texas on November 17, 1961. Their union was blessed with five children. She studied Business Administration at Chenier Business College, and was certified in evangelism and discipleship under Pastor A. R. Obey at Greater Good Hope Baptist Church.

Audie united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on December 31, 2005 under the leadership of Pastor John R. Adolph, and became a committed staff member, serving as administrative assistant in accounts payable, member of the Finance Counting Committee, and Evangelism Coordinator. She was a S.W.A.T. trained counselor, and worked diligently producing the church's membership directory.

Audie is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Angela J. Benton; both parents, both paternal and maternal grandparents, and brothers, Nelson Paul Mouton, Jr., and Cecil Glenn Pickens. She departed this life on Sunday, March 29, 2020 in Beaumont, Texas. Cherishing sweet memories are her husband, Edward Lee Benton, Sr., sons, Gary Lynn Stewart (Rita) of Dallas, Texas, and Edward Lee Benton, Jr., (Dwana) of California; daughters, Pamela Denae Benton of Beaumont, Deborah Michelle Benton and Cherie Quintina Pointer Benton of Houston; 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; aunts and uncle, Gladys Gamblin, Virgie Landry, Katherine Briggs, and Odis Briggs, Sr., and a host of "cousins" who embrace each other as brothers and sisters.
