Alfred Miller Binsted, son of John Binsted and Emily Trimming, immigrated to Canada, with his wife Emily and five of his daughters, arriving at Montreal, Quebec 8 May 1911 aboard the 'Canada'. Some of his thirteen children had already immigrated to North America. He had been a carpenter and joiner in England and many of his five sons followed his lead, becoming carpenters and builders in Canada and the US. He died in 1930 of asthma, bronchitis, organic heart disease.

BINSTED - Passed away May 14, 1930 at family residence, 4025 Oxford St., Alfred Miller Binsted in his 86th year; a native of England and a resident of this city for 19 years; leaving his widow, three sons and five daughters to mourn his loss. Deceased had been a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Manchester Unity, for 66 years. Funeral services will be held Friday May 16 at 2 pm, from the family residence, the Rev. H. Hoodspith officiating. Interment in I.O.O.F. MU plot, Mountain View cemetery. Armstrong & Co., funeral directors. No flowers by request. (Vancouver Sun, Thursday May 15, 1930)
