She loved to dance and was captain of Company A of the Scottish Brigade. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School, she went to Sam Houston State University and graduated from the University of Houston, where she met the love of her life Jerrell Montgomery. She said, "Once I met him, I didn't want to let a good thing get away." Their marriage of 59 years was a testament to unrelenting love. Diann loved to teach students and made an impact on students at LaMarque ISD and Alvin ISD. She was the department head for business and taught classes ranging from typing to computers. Diann loved to teach something she felt was an applicable skill for life. She retired from Alvin ISD in 1996. In her spare time, you could find Diann supporting her daughter Marla and active in the Texas All Breeds Horse Club often leading as the horse show chairperson. She loved spending time with neighbors: Dorothy and Skeet Thorton, Dorothy and Newt Fincher, and Bob and Jo Holl. She was an active member of Pearland United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering in the library and attending the Searchlight class with her close friends. She and her daughter were avid travelers, along with her dear friends Edith and Bob Willman, and their grandson Robert, and trips ranged from Canada to California to most of the mountainous states in the US.

Diann was an avid bridge player and loved volunteering at the library at Grapeland United Methodist Church. Her love of research led to a passion for genealogy. Diann found joy in learning about history and relatives and traveled to multiple states in her quest to learn more.
