With heavy heart, we announce the passing of Charlene Elena Adamik on January 2, 2024.
Charlene was born in Whitefish, Montana on April 4, 1944, to Charles and Dulce Bartlett. Charlene is survived by her two children, Beth Adamik and Glen (Maryann) Adamik, two grandchildren, Nathan and Shane Adamik, three sisters, Chiquita, Celia and Caren, one brother, Curt, numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Charlene worked as a paraeducator for Torrance Unified School District for nearly 40 years. She ran a daycare in her home for 25 years and worked for the Daily Breeze managing paperboys, back when we still had them. She truly enjoyed all her years working with children witnessing them grow up and eventually meeting their children, too.
Those who knew Charlene will remember her striking blue eyes. Her eyes were beyond blue, sparkling in joyful times and morphing into blue lightning when she needed to stress her point of view. Charlene was not shy about sharing her point of view, often whether you asked for it or not. She was a passionate person and could converse intelligently and accurately about many subjects.
Charlene was an avid reader. In fact, because she was not a great lover of outdoor activities, when others were outside, she could be found curled up with a good book. This paid off well for her family and friends because a lot of what she read was how to make fantastic dinners and desserts! She was a superb cook and took great joy in cooking for others. Her command of anything handcrafted, be it clothing, food, greeting cards, décor and many other things was to be seriously envied. Charlene was frequently in her kitchen creating fantastic dishes from new recipes or trying to perfect old ones. Charlene was also an avid gardener and found pleasure in being surrounded by the flowers and plants she tended.
Charlene's favorite title was "Mama." She was a mother bear never to be reckoned with. Her love for her children was immeasurable. She will be missed most by her daughter, Beth, who was her roommate, best friend and pride and joy.
