WILLIAMSTON — Arthur L. Acker Jr., 77, of 2 Crescent Drive, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born in Anderson County, he was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board, the Senior Adult and Men's Choirs and member of the Men's Sunday school class, Chairman of Emertius of Deacon Ministry, former leader of Boys Scout and a member of the Community Choir of Williamston.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of VFW Post 9727 in Williamston. He was retired from Michelin Tire Plant.
Surviving are widow, Hazel Scott Acker of the home; daughter, Anna L. Young of Greenville; brothers, Juan and Avery Limus Acker, both of Pennsylvania, Demark Acker of Wilton, N.C., Ricky Acker of Williamston, Edward Acker of Charlotte, N.C., and Arthur Acker II of Columbia; sister, Elese Acker Hawkins of Detroit, Mich.; 30 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Arthur and Lucille Jamison Acker Sr.
He was preceded in death by three daughters, Sandra and Avis Acker and Velma Stegar; and a son, Frank Acker.
Services are at 4 p.m. Thursday at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Williamston by the Rev. N. P. Pearson.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
No wake is planned.
The body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. Thursday.
The family is at the home.
The Unity Mortuary of Williamston is in charge of arrangements.
