George Donald "Duck" Walters (81) passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 16, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jane Watterson Walters, his daughter, Beth Walters Schultz (Joey), one granddaughter, Logan Elizabeth Schultz, and his sister, Patricia Walters Nance (Jimmy). Duck is preceded in death by his parents, George Lloyd Walters and Hattie Dowless Walters, and his brothers, Frank Delane Bryant and James Russell Walters.

Born and raised in Abbottsburg, NC, Duck graduated from Bladenboro High School as a star pupil and athlete. He was an engaged student and a dedicated basketball player, participating in many clubs/organizations, holding class officer positions and earning the Senior Superlative of "Best Looking." It was then that he fell for his beloved wife, Jane - the rest was history for these high school sweethearts as they wed in February of 1967.

Duck spent a great deal of his career in the banking industry as an Installment Loan Manager and Assistant Vice President - he was known for his expertise and was always prepared to help his customers. Following his banking career, Duck and his brother, Russell, embarked on a partnership of laundromats and carwashes in Bladen and Columbus County. He also served as an enlisted member of the Army National Guard.

Duck's greatest hobby and passion in life was without a doubt his golf game; you would often find him socializing at the clubhouse after a round of golf with dear friends and competitors alike. With a record number of holes-in-one at Land O'
Lakes Golf Course, he took much pride in his winnings as a Club Champion and has always been known for his incredible 'short game.' Duck's love for golf was truly unmatched as he shared many, many fond memories and unforgettable stories
with friends on the fairway.

In his free time, Duck enjoyed mowing grass, eating fresh watermelon on a hot summer day, spending time with his loving family, Jane's home cooking, watching sports, Westerns and the news, taking naps every chance that he got, and slow truck rides with a chew of tobacco. Duck was a simple man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; a man of few words filled with much wisdom to share.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, January 21 from 1:30 - 3:00 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, NC, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow. The burial will take place at Kelly Cemetery on Old
Boardman Road in Bladenboro, NC.
