Charles Edward Dean passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 after a short illness.
Charles was born in Hartsville, SC on October 28, 1937 to the late Rodgers Dean and Nella Smith Dean.
Charles founded Dean's Custom Air in 1968 and continued as it's owner since that date. He was an original parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church and later St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.
Charles enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, planning trips with his buddies to casinos and the mountains. He was a life long member of the Hardeeville Masonic Lodge.
Charles was the owner of Gus Dean Racing Team. He was affectionately known as "Granddaddy" in The Nascar Truck Series and ARCA racing series. He enjoyed attending his grandson's racing in Daytona and other cities as well as it gave him the opportunity to spend with all his grandchildren and family.
Charles is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 62 years, Virginia Pinckney Dean; his children, Charles E. Dean Jr. and his wife, Anne, and Paul Rodgers Dean and his wife, Lisa; his sisters, Nell Dean Simmons and Shelby Dean Land; three grandchildren, Gus (Briar), Cameron and Wyatt. He was predeceased by his brothers, William Dean and Harold Dean.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 19, 2024 at St. Andrew Chapel on Pinckney Colony Road where Charles and Virginia were married.
Burial will immediately follow Mass at the Pinckney Colony Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
