Glenda Johnson, born Glenda Heaton on July 3, 1929 in Brigham City, Utah, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 8, 2023, in Corvallis, Oregon.

Born at the beginning of the Great Depression, she was the first child in what ultimately became a large and loving family. Glenda graduated from Box Elder High School in Brigham City, UT and, following that, earned her Registered Nurse designation at Dee Hospital in Ogden, UT. Later in life, she furthered her education at Arizona State University, earning both Bachelor Of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master Of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees.

While training for her RN at Dee Hospital in 1950, Glenda was required to live in the nurse dormitory on the hospital campus. The administration wanted to be sure that there were no distractions during their hospital training. As fate would have it, one day she met a recently discharged USN Hospital Corpsman named Lawrence Lamar Johnson in the malt shop across the street from the hospital. It was love at first sight for both. Shortly thereafter, she sneaked out of the dormitory one night and they drove non-stop to Ely Nevada where they were married by a judge the following morning. They had just enough time to buy wedding rings when the jewelry store opened before they immediately drove back to the hospital. Fortunately, Glenda was able to sneak back into the dormitory without being caught.

Glenda was an extraordinary woman, mother and nurse who possessed both immense intelligence and a gentle, caring touch. Her dedication to her family, friends and patients was unparalleled. She is survived by her brothers Jon C. Heaton (USAF Brigadier General, ret.) and Joel B. Heaton (USN Captain, ret.), her sons Lawrence Kevin Johnson (Elodie), Hayden Corey Johnson (Dawn), Erick Lane Johnson (Teresa) and Thorne Cameron Johnson (Barbara) along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Lamar Johnson, her father, Harley Leora Heaton, her mother, Anna Jane Lundberg Heaton, her sisters Janice Heaton, Karen Heaton and Kathryn Eileen Heaton and her infant brother, Hayden Larry Heaton.

In accordance with Glenda's wishes, no services will be held. However, for those who would like to honor her memory, contributions can be made to the American Red Cross and/or the Arizona Humane Society.

Interment will take place at the Eureka Cemetery at Newport, Oregon on a future date when our mother and father will be laid to rest together for eternity. May their souls comfort each other forever.
