After completing his education in Maine and England, he joined the United States Navy and served in Vietnam. After receiving an honorable discharge from the armed forces, Bruce returned to Maine, and established his own business, Herbest Builders, which he ran until his retirement in 2013.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Gail; his daughter, Heather; and three stepsons, Brad, Beau, and Dustin Tierney. He also leaves behind his brother, Alton (Bunker), Alton's wife, Linda, of Old Town; and his sister, Bobette (Tweet) Frappier, and her husband, Michael of Hermon. He also has many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Bruce's life will be held this summer for family and friends. The date of the event will be announced in the near future.
