John Boyer Lytle, III, known by everyone as Skip, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 at his home after a brief time of declining health. Skip was born in Millersburg on Dec. 29, 1951 to JB and Marianne (Smith) Lytle and was a 1970 graduate of Waynedale High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from April 30, 1971 – March 23, 1977 having been active duty for several months during that time. On March 7, 1981 he married Julie Ann Straits and together they built a wonderful life and family. Skip loved working in the oil fields and was self employed throughout his life in the Oil and Gas industry, starting and running multiple businesses. Along with his wife, he owned and operated Southside Quik Lube in Millersburg until his retirement in 2008. He often spoke fondly of those in the community he met and befriended while running the shop. He was a member of Spartan Lodge #126 F. & A.M in Millersburg and was a lifetime member of the Holmesville American Legion Post 551 where he had served as Post Commander. Honoring Veterans who served our Country was very important to him. He loved spending time on the lake at Lake Buckhorn and he enjoyed traveling to the Pacific Northwest to visit family. He knew how to fix everything and was never without a project. Skip was always proud of his family. He loved his grand-kids and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Hope and Jeff Hart.
Graveside service with military honors will be held at Fredericksburg East Cemetery
