Odbert Cornwell

Odbert Howard "Bert" Cornwell, a Christian, patriot, faithful husband and loving father, lived from Aug. 10, 1923, to Jan. 17, 2024, one of the "greatest generations."

From a one-room schoolhouse, and taught by his dad in West Virginia, to the Army Air Corps and active duty, Bert graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts. All Bert really wanted to do was fly, which he quite satisfied by becoming a test pilot for the Jamieson Corp. after moving with two other families to Florida. When he had spare time, Bert enjoyed politics, building airplanes, inventing toys and acting.

He was preceded in death in 1968 by his parents, Howard and Agnes; in 2017 by his brother, Karl; and in 2014 by his wife, June. He is survived by his only child, Terri, and her husband, Tom; two grandsons, David and Daniel; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Viewing, fellowship and a celebration of Bert's life took place Jan. 22 at DeLand Church of the Nazarene. Interment was at DeLand Memorial Gardens.
