Inscription reads that he was born in Oglethorpe Co., Ga and died in Newton Co., GA.
Per Oglethorpe County Records, on the 25th of January, 1820, Alexander married Miss Permelia Hardin there in Oglethorpe County. Nicholas Powers, Minister of the Gospel presiding. Father John Houlton (2.2.10) Phair BIRTH 10 AUG 1778 • Bedford County, Va.

BIRTH ABT 1779 • Bute County, North Carolina DEATH ABT 1840 • Newton County, Georgia. His grandparents were Edward Phair and Rachel Beard Peter S Tatum and Virginia R Howell

Alexander can be found in the 1850 census of Newton County at the age of 51, living with his wife, Permelia, 48, and children E. L Pharr 24, Jane Pharr 19, Abraham Pharr 12 and John Pharr 10. At the time he was said to be a farmer. His two children were attending school. All were born in Georgia.
The 1860 census, still in Newton County relates the fortune Alexander had obtained; over $17,000 worth of real estate and $104,000 in personal estate. A large amount for those days. He was still farming and had with him, his wife Permelia and children Martha G 30. John T. 21 and Alex F. 28 who was an acting physician.
