He was a lifetime resident and businessman in Belpre. He was owner and operator of Belpre Transfer Company. Over a period of 70 years his business included the delivery of ice for iceboxes, hauling and delivery of coal, local and long distance moving of household goods, produces and freight, and the sale of brick and stone products for residential and commercial use. He enjoyed traveling, working in his garden and sitting on the porch with his pug, Maggie.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Helen Louise Adams. his parents, and one sister Mary Louise (Howard) Randolph.
He is survived by two sons Howard Joseph Adams of Reno, NV and Stephen of Belpre; four daughters, Rita of Belpre, Linda, Susan, and Marsha of Akron, Ohio. There are also three granddaughters Teri Whitmore of Hamilton, Ohio, Niki Adams of Phoenix, AZ, and Rebecca Dalton of Copley, Ohio; two great-granddaughters. Kiersten and Kimberly Whitmore of Hamilton, and one great grandson Chase Joseph Adams of Phoenix. He also leaves behind his constant companion Maggie the Pug.
Visitation will be Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre. At his request, private graveside services will be held, at the convenience of the family.
