Jacob Hanna Adam passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 24, 2024. Despite his humble beginnings, he lived a rich life. Born in Ramallah, Palestine to a Syriac Christian Orthodox family, he was the fourth of nine children. At the age of 19, after his father was granted a green card, Jacob immigrated to the United States, where he lived in Chicago and worked as a tailor. Jacob proudly became an American citizen in 1957, never taking it for granted and voting in every election until his death. He married the love of his life in 1960, before moving to California, where he continued to work as a tailor to support his growing family. With his savings and good sense, Jacob started a business with his friend, owning a store and eventually invested in commercial real estate. He played a significant role in helping establish the first Syriac Christian Orthodox Church in Los Angeles in 1962 with a handful of families in a small hall on Venice Boulevard, which twice relocated to accommodate its growing congregation. Always one to enjoy travel and the consummate host, Jacob was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kind and generous man who lived the American dream. Jacob is survived by his wife of 63 years, four daughters, sons-in-law, three grandsons, and four siblings. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. James Syriac Orthodox Church, Sunland, CA.
