Born in Talbot County on Aug. 20, 1910, he was educated in public schools and was a farm laborer for many years. He was an employee of N. E. Taylor for many years and eventually became a caretaker for the Todd's of Ashby.
He married Helen Warrick Benson on Nov. 23, 1936.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Benson is survived by eight daughters, Mary D. Smith and Ethel Benson of Easton, Hilda Wilson of St. Michaels, Viola Skinner of Chapel, Dorothy Tilghman and Virginia Burford of New Jersey, Evelyn Davis of Baltimore and Charlotte Benson of Grasonville; four sons, Percy Benson, Nelson Copper and Robert Benson of Easton, and Milton Benson of New Jersey; one sister, Lottie Brice of Easton; 34 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, July 13 at Union Baptist Church in Easton. The Rev. Dr. John E. Bagley Jr. officiated. Burial was in Chapel Cemetery.
