Jeanne Bretherton Sleeper, age 90 years, of Naples, Florida and New Haven, Connecticut passed away on August 7, 2023 after a long and happy life.


Jeanne was born in Perth, Australia to Helen Francis Craig and John Allen on September 16, 1932. At the age of 14, Jeanne immigrated to Norfolk, Connecticut with her family and stepfather, Mason Turner. In Connecticut, she attended Rosemary Hall. In 1956, Jeanne married Herbert Raymond Sleeper at her home in Norfolk, Connecticut. They subsequently moved to New Haven, Connecticut where Herb was Chairman of the Department of Oral Surgery at Yale/New Haven Hospital. In New Haven, Jeanne was a President of the New Haven Garden Club where she spearheaded the re-planting of dogwoods on the New Haven Green which remain today. Jeanne also served 10 years as a Justice of the Peace


Jeanne and Herb moved from their home of 32 years in New Haven to Naples in 1993. Subsequent to Herb's death in 2008, Jeanne remarried Thomas K. Tyrell, a beloved history lecturer in Naples, who passed away this February after a brief illness. Jeanne was an avid tennis and bridge player. She was a friend to many in Naples and New Haven, including her bridge group, church group and the community in her condo building, the Stratford. She had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest.


Jeanne is survived by her daughters, Craig Schiavone, Westport, Connecticut and Bretherton Earl, Cincinnati, Ohio; her sons, Mason Sleeper, Greenwich, Connecticut and Orin Sleeper, Miami, Florida; and
her sisters, Marlene Kwast, Norfolk, Connecticut and Craig Carr, East Longmeadow Connecticut. Her grandchildren are Maxim Schiavone, August Lamm, Olivia Williams, Salem Williams, Brooks Sleeper, Avery Sleeper, Jayden Sleeper and Kyla Sleeper. She is pre-deceased by her sister, Suzanne Dooley
