Bertha Peleuli (Bertelmann) Dement, 94, of Waimea, Hawai'i Island, died at home on January 11, 2024. She was born on May 8, 1929, in Waiʻōhinu, Ka'u, Hawai'i. She enjoyed lei making (lei wili), quilting, pandanus weaving (ulana lauhala), and coconut weaving (ulana lau niu). She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waimea 2nd Ward and the Waimea Ka'ahumanu Society, Chapter 2. She is survived by her children, Kai (Linda) Kaholokai, Bert (Darlene) Dement, Marilei (Joey) Lindsey, and Ann Dement, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She now joins her beloved husband, Denny Clifford Dement, Sr., son, Denny Clifford Dement, Jr., mother, father, and 10 siblings in eternal rest. Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation, Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., followed by her funeral service, at 11 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 65-1160 Kapi'olani Road. Burial will follow at the Waimea Cemetery, Mormon Section, Church Road. The family requests aloha attire.
