LELAND - Funeral Services for Alma Carpenter Abdo, retired Secretary and Manager MAFES and USDA, 83, of Leland, MS was at 4:00 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2003 at the Boone Funeral Home in Leland, MS. She died July 3, 2003 at her home in Leland of heart failure. Burial was in the Leland-Stoneville Cemetery, Stoneville, MS. Boone Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
She was born in Belzoni and graduated from Moorhead High School and attended Sunflower Junior College (now MDCC) and Mississippi State College for Women (now MCW). She was employed at Henderson & Baird as a secretary and was a secretary at Leland High School, In 1957 she went to U.S.D.A. at Stoneville before retiring and becoming secretary of MAFES retiring in 1994 due to ill health. She was preceded in death by her husband Gabe C. Abdo in 1969. She was a member of Leland United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Frank Brian Abdo of Leland; three sister, Mary Ell (George) Greenway of Biloxi, MS, Celeste "Tine" (Fred) Sullivan of Cleveland, MS and Anice C. Powell of Sunflower, MS; and a brother, Will Dockery (Helen) Carpenter of Chesterfield, MO.
Active Pallbearers were John Michael Snatucci, Allen Clark, Jimmy Smith, Billy Johnson, David Warren and Gary Robinson.
Honorary Pallbearers were Jamie Taylor, Wayne Ebelhar, Dave Ranney, Charlie Cascio, Frand Cascio, John Maggio, Jay Smith, Colon Watkins, Leonard Powell, Robert Cameron Dean, Dr. Charles Shaw. Benjamin F. Riddle, and Robert C. Lees.
The family received friends on Saturday, July 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home.
