Born in Danville, Va., on May 6, 1918, and moved to Leaksville (now Eden) as a young child. He was the son of the late Edwin Cleophus Boyd , Sr., and Elizabeth Robertson Boyd . He was the husband of Louise Shumate Boyd for 56 years.
Mr. Boyd was retired from Western Electric Co. in 1977, having worked at Burlington and Greensboro locations and assignments at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico and Kwajalain Missile Site in the Marshall Islands Trust Territory of the Pacific. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Drives. Mr. Boyd was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, serving as elder, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member. He served in the Army in World War II for three years in the Pacific Theater and was recalled to serve in the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Captain through the ranks. A 32nd Degree Mason having been a charter member of Burlington Lodge #721 A.F. & A.M. which merged with Bula Lodge #409 A.F. & A.M., and a former member of Leaksville Masonic Lodge #136 A.F. & A.M., a charter and life member of Amran Shrine in Raleigh, N.C., member of Amran Fire Brigade and Burlington Shrine Club. He was also a member of Greensboro York Rite Bodies and Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies and former member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem - Gate City Shrine No. 2, Burlington Men's Garden Club and Men's Home Extension Club of Alamance County.
Surviving, other than his wife of the home are a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Sapp and husband, Philip of Eden and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Elaine B. Lester and two brothers, William Thomas Boyd , Sr. and Robert Jackson Boyd .
