He loved Spelunking also known as Caving. He knew much about the science of Speleology, Biology, Conservation and Management of Caves and Karst. Lee Jay Graves was a prominent figure in cave research and exploration in Texas and Mexico. His discovery of a cave adapted mold beetle, Batrisodes gravesii, was named in his honor. Lee Jay was one of the directors of the Texas Cave Management Association that has been protecting caves since 1986.
