Stephen Edward Franklin, 60, died on Monday, the 12th day of February, 2024, at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, ironically just a few blocks from the old Kentucky Baptist Hospital where he was born on the 24th day of October in 1963. He was the son of the late Edward Wallace "Sonny" and Betty Lee Shepherd Franklin. Known as "the McDonald's guy," he had supervised multiple stores in Shelbyville and Louisville simultaneously during his career. The one thing most people did not realize about Stephen was that he had an almost eidetic memory where he could name any cousin or distant relation and tell you how they fit into the family tree. Gifted with an ability to remember and relish all the friendships through the years while working, he could actually the name of every person who ever walked through the doors of his McDonald stores even years after they had already retired or decided to seek work for other companies.

His survivors include his spouse of over forty years, Donald Murphy of Shelbyville; his two sisters, Peggy Rucker of Alton and Elizabeth Simpson of Waddy; and his numerous nieces and nephews. Also left are his Murphy in-laws who adored him including Norma Lee Murphy and Norma Grace Murphy of Peytona, Judy Tipton and Ronald Murphy and his wife, Debbie, of Bagdad, and Bobby Murphy and his wife, Linda, of Shelbyville, his very special friends, Lee and Estella Davis and Michael and Rebecca Harden, all of whom shared in his adventures and were a big part of his family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., on Monday, the 19th day of February, 2024, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with the Reverend Ricky Simpson II officiating. Visitation will from 10:30 A.M., until 2:45 P.M., Monday, the 19th day of February, 2024, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home. Interment upon inurnment will be in the Cropper Cemetery at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville and condolences may be expressed at www.halltaylorfuneralhomes.com.
