Henry Baumgarth, born in Latvia, and Julia Cohn, born in Manhattan, were married on May 21, 1899 in Detroit. They lived for a time in Clare, Michigan, not far from Bay City where other Jewish Latvian immigrants had settled and where their newborn baby girl died in 1900. They soon moved to Cleveland, Ohio where their two children, Dorothy (Krow, by her married name) and Stanley L. Baumgarth were born. Census records in Cleveland give Henry's professions as a retail merchant and salesman in dry goods stores in 1910 and 1930 and, in 1920, as a real estate agent. By 1940, Henry and Julia had retired and were living in Miami Beach, Florida, where Henry died in 1962. (Julia later moved to be with their daughter near Pittsburgh.)
