Loving and Devoted Husband, Father & Papa Louis J. "Louie" Konkol, age 89, of Lawrence Park, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Louis was born in Erie on September 7, 1922, son of the late Paul and Mary Konkol. Louis was an engineer for 40 years with Hammermill/International Paper Co., and taught mechanical engineering at Behrend College, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist R.C. Church, American Legion Carl Neff Post #571, Monzuka Club, Holy Trinity and Cursillo #91. He enjoyed golfing, trains and cooking. Louis was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII with Gen. George Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star.
Louis is survived by his wife Helen B. Konkol. They celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary on January 21st. He is further survived by five children, Louis Michael Konkol and wife Judith of Harborcreek, Ronald James Konkol, Sr. and wife Connie of Fairview, Gregory Michael Konkol of Lawrence Park, Marcie Senita and husband Matthew of Wattsburg, and Lisa Repko and husband David of Lawrence Park; four brothers, Joseph Konkol (Florence), Edward Konkol (Sadie), Jack Konkol (Fran) and Thomas Konkol; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bernadette Konkol; a great-grandson, Zachary Konkol; and one brother, Raymond Konkol. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist R.C. Church.
