NEFF -- Irwin H. Neff Jr. 68, of 111 Spruce St., Elk Rapids, passed away Thursday, March 14 at the Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility, Bellaire, after a lengthy illness. He was born June 13, 1905, in Birmingham, the son of Irwin H and Bertha Alicia Bigelow Neff. He graduated from Baldwin High School, Birmingham and attended Dennison University. He also married his wife, Edna M. Sharp, in Birmingham, living there until his retirement about 12 years ago from the GMC Truck and Coach, Pontiac. The couple then moved to Elk Rapids, where Mr. Neff remained active in Community activities, holding membership in the Elk Rapids F and AM No. 275, the BPOE in Traverse City, and the Elk Rapids Rotary International, of which he was a
former president. He also served with the Hi-12 and, being active in working with young people, had worked as a camp counselor at times during his life. A devout
Episcopalian, he was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Elk Rapids.
His wife, Edna, preceded him in death in February of 1973. Also preceding him in
death were his parents. He is survived by a brother, Mort Neff of Birmingham. Funeral
services for Mr. Neff will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Elk Rapids, 4 p.m.
Saturday, March 16, with Fr. Hewitt Johnston officiating. Interment will be in the
spring at Maple Grove Cemetery, Elk Rapids. Friends may call at the Dockery-Wilhelm-Smith Funeral Home, Elk Rapids, 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Elk Rapids, or
to the Irwin H. Neff Rotary Scholarship Fund. Envelopes may be picked up at the
funeral home.
