Oscar N. Offield, 51, died instantly about 1 a.m. Saturday from gunshot wounds, apparently self inflicted, according to a coroner's verdict. Mr. Offield had seemingly been in good spirits before retiring and had spent the evening playing dominoes with a friend in the home. It is thought that he had been despondent at times recently about his health. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Phillips & Luckey funeral home with the Rev. Byron Welch of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Oscar Offield was well and favorably known in Rockdale and this section of Milam County where he had spent practically his whole life. He was born at San Gabriel, May 13, 1900. On July 24, 1920 he was married to Miss Lorena Wilson. The couple resided in Rockdale in recent years and Mr. Offield followed the trade of carpentry. They returned to their farm in the Tracy community which they had retained for past ten years, and he was occupied with farming and did cattle raising along with his other trade. Mr. Offield was a member of the Christian Church of San Gabriel. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lorena W. Offield; two sons, Luther Needom and Boyd Offield; one daughter-in-law and a small grandson, Carey Wayne Offield; his mother Mrs. Viola Offield of San Gabriel; his father J.F.
