Services Held Saturday for Allison Hale

Funeral services were held Saturday Sept 28 in the Afton Second-Third Ward LDS Ward Chapel for Allison Archibald Moffat Hale, 85, early Star Valley pioneer, who died at the Afton LDS Hospital Wednesday, Sept 25. The Third Ward Bishopric was in charge of the services.
Mrs Hale was born Dec 29, 1877 in a little frame house in Almy, Wyo., the daughter of Archibald Russell and Mary Patterson Hunter Moffat. She had a sister, Elizabeth (Bessie) Wilkes and an adopted brother, James.
Mr Moffat was born in Scotland, as was Mrs Moffat. He came to America when he was in his late teens and Mrs Moffat came when she was a baby.
Mr Moffat was a miner, and they moved around to several places including Almy, Rock Springs, Snyderville and Parley's Park.

When on a trip to Bear Lake, her mother was thrown from the buggy with her three-month old daughter, Allison, in her arms. Mrs Moffat was hurt and was on crutches the rest of her life, Allison received a spinal injury from which she suffered the rest of her life.
Mrs Hale came with her parents and family to Star Valley on Nov 3, 1887. Their home was west of the two story frame house which they built on the site were the Murray Wilkes home now stands.
Mrs Hale didn't receive very much schooling because of her mother's illness, and the girls stayed home to care for her.

On April 5, 1900 she married Johnathan Herriman Hale in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived 3 1/2 blocks east of Main street on fourth Avenue. They soon moved to the Moffat home where their first child Mary was born.

They built a two-room frame home in 1901, the present home. They started to enlarge their home in 1905, and in March, 1907 they had finished the remaining part, making six rooms downstairs and four bedrooms upstairs. The rest of the family, eight children, Ann, Rena, Archie, Bessie, Lewy, Afton, Grace and Lee were born in this home.

Mrs Hale loved music and dancing and received a great joy in working in the temple. She worked in the church as a primary teacher, Sunday School teacher, MIA chorister, and ward and stake chorister. She was a visiting teacher in the relief society, and was on the ward and stake genealogical committee for a number of years.
She had her prayers answered many times and taught her children to believe and have faith in God, and to seek and serve Him every day of their lives.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Mr and Mrs A.R. Moffat; a sister Bessie Wilkes; two daughters Mrs Martin (Mary) Schwab; and Mrs George (Afton) Hanush; her husband J.H. Hale; and a son Lee and a grandson Gilman Merritt.

She is survived by a son, Archie, Afton; five daughters Mrs Henry (Ann) Noelte, Temple City, Calif; Mrs Roy (Rena) Morgan, Rigby, Idaho; Mrs Norman (Bessie) Merritt, Bedford; Mrs Ervin (Lewy) Harris, Preston, Idaho; a brother, James Moffat, Ogden; and by 29 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren.
