Caran, a lifelong resident of Lumberton, resided in Livingston for the last eight years where she was a Police Officer for the City of Livingston.

She graduated from Lumberton High School in 1987 where she was in the band and a twirler. Later she attended Lamar University from 1987 through 1988; she was also a twirler for Lamar.

She attended Angelina Police Academy and graduated with Valedictorian and Top Marksman honors in 2004. Later she was employed with Polk County Sheriff's Office and was a Coldspring Independent School District Police Officer before transferring to the City of Livingston Police Department. She was recently promoted to FTO, Livingston Police Department Training Officer.

Survivors include her mother and father, Doris Sheffield and Kenneth Davenport; father, Dana Sheffield; daughter, Megan Elizabeth Corley; sons, Randy Phillip Coward, Jr. and Nathaniel Jacob Coward; sister, Stacie Sheffield and her husband Matt; brothers, Kenneth Davenport, Jr. of Milano and Michael Keith Sheffield; grandmother, Doris Haney and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
