Born March 15, 1930, in Osawatomie, Kansas, she was the daughter of Herman and Hazel (Stanback) Goodeyon.
She attended Osawatomie High School.
In 1950, she and Kenneth Ames were married in Miami County, Kansas, and they became the parents of two children.
Mrs. Ames worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital for several years, and then she owned and operated a liquor store with her brother, Lloyd Goodeyon, in Osawatomie. When they sold the business, she worked in a liquor store in Paola. Later she operated a day care in her home in Paola where she cared for children until her health started failing in 2003.
She received enjoyment from bowling, cooking and taking drives with her son.
Preceding her in death were a sister, Betty Jean Goodeyon; and three brothers, Louie, Lloyd, and Floyd Goodeyon.
Survivors include her daughter, Debra Leinweber of Belton, MO; her son, Howard Ames of Paola, KS; two brothers, Joe Goodeyon of Grove, OK, and Howard Goodeyon of Osawatomie, KS; three sisters, Mary Nichols of Granbury, TX, Rosie O'Brien of Grover Beach, CA, and Nina Evert of Belton, MO; and one grandson.
Graveside services were in Osawatomie Cemetery under the arrangements of Penwell-Gabel Mortuary, Paola, KS.
