Harold Charles Lombardi of San Ardo, 82
Long time San Ardo resident Harold Charles Lombardi passed away on July 15, as a result of lung and heart failure. Harold, of proud Swiss decent, was born on Jan 2, 1925, in King City, and attended elementary school in King City and San Ardo before graduating from King City High School in 1943. Harold and his brother Edwin Lombardi were respected Salinas Valley farmers operating under the business name Lombardi Brothers or over 50 years. They were the first in San Ardo to grow sugar beets for which they won numerous awards. Their other success in farming included growing corn for the Cornnut Company, as well as alfalfa, bell peppers, tomatoes, large lima beans, and carrots.
In 1963, Harold met Esterina Martina Torroni who was visiting the United States from her home in Switzerland. The two were married later that year and had three children, Matthew, who died at birth, Sharon Graziella, and Michael Harold. Harold was a devoted husband, loving and selfless father, loyal friend, and hard working farmer.
Harold loved dancing, playing the accordion, traveling, water skiing, and golf, but his passion was socializing with others. For many years, he was an active member of the Salinas Elks Club, the Swisss-American Club of Monterey County, and the Silver Kings and Queens of King City.
Aside from his wife, daughter, son and brother, Harold is survived by his 3 adoring grandchildren, Amy (13), Jack (11), and Grant Alston (11), son-in-law Tony , and daughter-in-law Andrea.
Harold led a tremendously succesful and complete life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family.
