4 Jun 1930, Lisbon, New York, USA
This community was shocked and saddened when it became known that Mrs. Joseph Hargrave had passed away Wednesday evening, May 21st. She had put the little ones to bed and had retired. About ten o'clock she awakened her husband and said she was dying. Before he could get the children together she had passed to her heavenly home, death being due to heart trouble.
The funeral was conducted from the home Saturday afternoon, their pastor Rev. George Gordon of Lisbon officiating, assisted by Rev. G. R. Harland. The bearers were Messrs. Lee Reynolds, George White, Chas. Spearance, Clarence Veitch, Jess Walker and Walter Short. Interment was made at the old Scotch cemetery near Waddington.
Annie Clarke Hargrave was born in Caledonia, Ont., fifty-five years ago, and was a daughter of Hugh and Dorothy Clarke. Twenty-nine years ago she was united in marriage with Joseph Hargrave and came to this place where they have always resided on the home farm. To them were born seven sons and three daughters, all of whom survive: Clarke, Arthur, Robert, John, Luther, James, and Lloyd, and Marion, Dorothy, Mrs. Gilbert Riley of Lisbon, and Anna Belle. Mrs. Hargrave was very much devoted to her family and was a good neighbor and friend to all who knew her. The sympathy of this community goes out to the sorrowing husband and family so suddenly bereft. She also leaves two brothers and a sister, the brothers coming from Caledonia to attend the funeral.
