Mary Ellen Bartleson, 74, passed away peacefully in her home on April 19, 2008.

She was born April 3, 1934 in Vamoosa, Oklahoma the daughter of James Lloyd & Nellie (Burks) Hightower. She married Robert W. Bartleson on December 22, 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Metropolis. They had one son, Robert Kris Bartleson, who was born March 4, 1958 and passed away at the age of 8 years old on June 25, 1966.

Mary was a beloved wife and mother. She will be fondly remembered by those who loved her for her sense of humor, generosity, kindness and love of family and friends. Mary wrote poetry for many years. She loved animals and had several beloved cats and dogs in her lifetime. Mary was known as "Mary B" to a lot of her friends. She will be sadly missed by so many. She was a member of the Eastern Star for many years. Mary and her husband Robert owned and operated the Egyptian Hills Marina in Creal Springs for many years and later owned and operated R&M Boat Docks in Creal Springs for 6 years. When her health permitted, Mary attended New Horizon's General Baptist Church in Marion.

She is survived by her:
Sister – Bernice Neal of Huntsville, TX
Uncle – Buddy Hightower of Washington, DC
Brother-in-law – Mike Galayda of West Frankfort
Brother-in-law – Alvin Bartleson of St. Louis, MO
Sister-in-law – Carolyn Laughlin of Tyler, TX
Numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends including her dog Buffy

Preceded by: Parents, Husband – Robert Bartleson, Son – Robert Kris Bartleson, Sisters – Joyce Ailene Hightower, Ila Frances "Susie" Galayda and Brothers – James Quentin "JQ" Hightower, Loal Neil Hightower.

A "Celebration of Mary's Life" will be held at a later date. Burial will follow in Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with the arrangements.
