I.C. Giles was a very successful grocery and implement merchant in Bowie, TX. He came to Bowie about 22 years before his death from Wood County, TX.

He passed away of a heart ailment at the home of his daughter Mrs. James A. Wilson and her husband of Bowie. He had been living with his daughter since the death of his second wife Lizzie Marable Giles. He had a large circle of friends in the city.

Services were held at 3:30 on Feb. 18, 1914 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. R.E. Bell officiating.

Isaac C. GILES was the son of Barnabus "Barney" McKinney and Mary Elizabeth Harrison Giles. They are buried in Hawkins Cemetery, Hawkins, Wood Co., Texas.

He married Mary Leila Jones in Wood County Texas on Feb. 23, 1871. Eight children were born of that union. Four of those surviving at the time of his death were Mrs. Jas. A. Wilson of Bowie, Claud C. Giles of Ft. Worth, B. R. Giles of Bowie, and Dave Giles of Bowie.

Children were Leila, Mollie, Claudius C., R. Barney, Virgil P. (I have not yet confirmed the information in this paragraph and it is incomplete.)

His first wife was Mary Leila Giles and he is buried next to her and his daugher Leila in the Giles family area of Elmwood. His second wife was Elizabeth "Lizzie" Roane Marable Giles. She is buried next to her first husband John Benjamin Marable, Sr. in the Marable area of Elmwood. Lizzie and I.C. married Oct. 20, 1907. He was the stepfather of my grandmother Elizabeth Marable Witherspoon.

He was a Mason. He had the Mason symbol on his marker.
