Hugo F. Alvine, 83, formerly of 2424 41st St., Moline, died Saturday at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
Services are 11 am Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Moline, where he was a member. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline.
Visitation is 4 to 8 pm Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Memorials may be made to the church.
Mr. Alvine was born July 15, 1906, in Rock Island County. He married Linnea C. Sandholm Aug. 7, 1929, in Rock Island. She died in 1977. He married Marian A. Littig June 2, 1979, in Rock Island.
He was a graduate of Rock Island High School and a 1929 graduate of Augustana College. He had been captain of football and basketball teams at Augustana, and in 1978 was inducted into the Tribe of Vikings Athletes' Hall of Fame.
He retired in 1971 from the John Deere Des Moines Works, where he had been an engineer for 42 years.
He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons; a former member of Moline Lodge 556, BPOE; a member of the John Deere Retirees; and the Men's Rose Club, Moline, from which he had won several honors for his roses. He enjoyed coin collecting and belonged to several Numismatic Clubs.
Survivors include the widow; daughter Joanne Wisemiller, Columbus, Ohio; son Robert Alvine, Moline; stepsons James Littig, Columbus, Ohio, and Jon Littig, Walnut Creek, Calif.; four grandchildren, and five stepgrandchildren.
