On 30 April, 1910, at the age of 23, Mary Ellen married a 37 year old widower and physician, Dr. Ezekiel McCord Bailey. They had three children: Emerene McCall (Bailey) Abbott/Fowler (1911-1996); Mary Louise (Bailey) Pharriss/Notz (1913-2008); and Meshach Stacey "Mesh" Bailey (1915-1963).
On 6 May 1918, Mary Ellen died in hospital in Springfield. Her grave is in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Elkland, Missouri. When her husband died in 1950, he too, was buried there. A single tombstone marks both their graves.
