ANTHONY F. ABELL (Age 70)

Beloved husband, father, and brother passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Sibley Memorial Hospital surrounded by family. He was born in Washington, DC to William S. and Patricia O'Callaghan Abell and is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Nancy Elbin Abell, daughter Jessica Abell Ganjamie and her husband Tom, as well as his siblings Patricia Abell, William S. (Kathryn) Abell, Christopher (Patricia) Abell, Elaine (Thomas) Nurmi, Kevin (Sally) Abell, Gregory (Cindy) Abell, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 23 years, Susan Zannini Abell. Tony was a graduate of Georgetown Prep and Boston College, and earned an MA in journalism from Boston University and an MBA from American University. He worked at MCI before becoming a travel consultant and golf tours director specializing in trips to Ireland and Scotland. Tony was a devoted and loyal husband, father, brother, and friend. He was an enthusiastic amateur golfer who wrote a soon-to-be-published novel inspired by his love of the game. He was generous to many and truly a man for others. He will be deeply missed by the countless people whose lives he enriched. Friends and loved ones will be received at Joseph Gawler's Sons, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC on Thursday, May 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada Street, NW Washington, DC on Friday, May 12 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Tony would want you send a contribution to the Washington Jesuit Academy, 900 Varnum St. NE, Washington, DC 20017 or Manna Food Center Community Food Rescue Program, 9311 Gaither Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
